01 Design Overview

Mad Clinic is an interactive game Color Hunter Game to cheer people up. Color Hunter game contains chubby character, motley colors and real-time visual analysis of body moves and volume.

Emotions are transmissible - Different emotions may bring different feelings to people around. Happiness can be contagious, so do negative emotions. Mad Clinic provides a private space with virtual environment and efficiently transferring your focus from annoying things, which are intended to assist people better vent their emotions with a more comfortable and reliable experience. It explores the relationship between visualized information and human emotions, and the possibility of changing people’s mood.

Color Hunter Game

In Color Hunter Game, player’s anger shifted to the game will become exaggerated animations, which may be a mirror explaining how your anger would hurt people around them to some extent.

02 User Research

I interviewed 16 people about what they will do when they are angry, and filmed with permission. No surprise that most answers are related to physically violence.

And I did a research analyse based on the answers.

03 Ideation

Research Insight

Locking up negative emotions is bad for health, and currently both fiercely and smoothly venting out negative emotions are not the perfect solution

Objective

How might we help people vent negative emotions and avoid disadvantages of  current fierce or smooth solutions?

Solution

A private room provides solo experience, instinctive+virtual experience, changing people's focus.

05 Technical Process

I had no programming experience before this project, I self-learnt processing Minim Library & Kinect skeleton in  Processing.

09 Reflection

Although it took me quite a long time to learn Processing and Kinect, I found myself interested in creative coding. And I found fulfillment when everything was implemented. I also learnt a lot from research to ideation, for that every design decision needs to be supported from research.

Next Step

I would add a physical device, something to grab, squeeze or kick, consistent with the interactive game to make the experience more intuitive and make people engage more in the game.
